Misperceptions about the effect that comics have on a child’s mind go way back to the days when the comic genre was brand new. But even the U.S. Senate hearings of the 1940’s were unable to prove a negative impact on children. Today a growing body of research suggests that not only are comics and graphic novels entertaining, but they actually help children learn to read.
